Minecraft: How to teleport

The Minecraft worlds can be huge. A new world can be created in Minecraft vanilla. It spans 30 million blocks in each direction. This doesn't include places like the Nether and the End.

Even if you are fast, it can be slow to get from one place to the next. There are many shortcuts.

Both the Java and Bedrock Minecraft versions allow you to use command codes to teleport anywhere. You can also teleport other players. Here's how.

How to teleport in Minecraft

You must enable cheats in Minecraft before you can teleport. You can enable cheats in two different ways depending on whether your world is new or existing. However, both methods are simple. For more information, see our article on how cheats can be enabled.

To open the chat menu, once cheats are active, press T on the keyboard or the right Dpad button on the controller. Next, type /tp.

Quick tip: You could also type /teleport. Both commands work exactly the way they do.

There are a few options available at this point. Teleporting around using XYZ coordinates is the best and most efficient way.

Each location in Minecraft is assigned a unique XYZ coordinate. You can find them in Java edition by pressing F3 on your keyboard, or Fn + F3 on a laptop. To toggle Show Coordinates, in Bedrock, pause and click Settings.

Teleportation to any place is possible as long as the coordinates are known. You can do this by typing /tpXYZ.

For example, to teleport to 70, 70 or 70, type /tp 70 70 70.

Important: Minecraft has 64 layers. Any lower than 64 characters for your Y coordinates will result in you being sent into "The Void", where your player will be killed almost instantly.

Use the tilde key (~). if you aren't sure where you want to go but you know which way you want. Entering /tp 70 70 70 70 to get 70 blocks in the air and 70 blocks from your current location will take you 70 blocks east. Add a minus sign to the number to go in the opposite direction (west, south, north).

Teleporting other players is possible, too. You just need to type the username of the player before entering the coordinates. For example, if you want to teleport JohnDoe, type: /tp JohnDoe70 70 70.

If you just want to teleport to JohnDoe (or to any other player), simply type: /tp JohnDoe

Be careful! Teleporting yourself to solid ground can be dangerous if you don't take precautions. Your character will take heavy damage and then die within a matter of seconds. This can be avoided by adding the word true at the end of your cheat. This will cause the game to check for blocks at the location where you are trying to warp to and cancel the teleport if any find.

These are other quick commands that can be used to teleport:

Teleporting to The Nether or The End: How do you do it?

Minecraft games begin in the Overworld. This is where you will spend the majority of your time. Special items are required to get to The Nether or The End, which are the two dimensions of Minecraft.

Minecraft: Java Edition allows you to teleport between dimensions within seconds. You will combine the teleport cheat and a new command, "/execute" to do this.

Usually Minecraft servers have dedicated places and portals for this functionality, however now you know how to make it happen on your own server.
